About LauberCFOs

LauberCFOs, Inc. was founded in 1986 by John G. Lauber, a CPA whose background included both "Big (at that time) 8" public accounting experience and positions as Controller, V.P. Finance and General Manager in several privately-held companies.

In dealing with small and mid-sized businesses, he had seen that they often warranted the breadth of experience found, for example, at the Vice-President Finance level of a large company, but they generally did not have enough of that work to justify a full-time position, nor the income to afford it.

As dedicated as their bookkeeping/accounting staffs always were, these businesses typically lacked what John Lauber termed "The CFO Advantage®" - the full range of functions that could be provided by a seasoned Chief Financial Officer with both controllership and treasury/financing experience amplified by a multi-industry perspective.

Lauber's concept was to build a firm that would make The CFO Advantage® feasible for all businesses by enabling a company to engage an experienced Chief Financial Officer who would serve part-time, typically a day or two each week, as an on-going member of the company's management team.

For LauberCFOs to fulfill this concept has meant building an unusual non-hierarchical company ("the ultimate flat organization") consisting of only one level of highly qualified professionals.

In 2000, LauberCFOs hired its first full-time recruiter. The recruiter was responsible for developing a separate group of Contract professionals who are available to work with clients on a Full-time, Interim, or Project basis. At the same time, LauberCFOs added Full-time search and placement of financial personnel to its service offerings.

Over the years, LauberCFOs has served the financial management needs of over 400 small to mid-sized, privately held firms in Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, and northern Illinois. We have also built a network of many referrals and resources in the surrounding business communities.

LauberCFOs is believed to be the only firm of its kind in the country. We are pleased to have been featured in numerous Milwaukee-area articles and to have been recognized nationally in publications such as Small Business Reports and CFO Magazine.
